Test your skill against challenges designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, one of the games most renowned strategic thinkers, as you tackle the course and take in stunning views overlooking the sparkling blue waters of Lake Taupo. Built along the base of volcanic slopes with fairways that ripple and rumble from side to side and a few greens that appear to be recessed into folds of the land, protected by manmade fault lines that look incredibly natural, like the ground had slumped following a tremor.
Recognised as New Zealand’s #1 Golf Course in the ‘2023 World Golf Awards’ and ranked #4 in NZ by Australian Golf Digest for 2023/24.
Non-golfers have a tour today – either a trip out on the lake to see the Maori rock carvings, or to Huka Falls and other features around in the area. Evening at leisure in Taupo.

Hotel: Scenic Te Pania (or similar).

Friday 29 Nov (B,D)         Golf Day – Cape Kidnappers

It’s fitting that your final golf day on the North Island is at Cape Kidnappers, ranked 55th in InsideGOLF’s Top 100 Courses in the World for 2023-24. Not a links, more like a stratospheric Pebble Beach, high atop a windswept plateau some 500 feet above the sea. The design truly demonstrates the lay-of-the-land philosophy of American architect Tom Doak, who ran holes out and back along a series of ridges perpendicular with the coastline, most framed by deep canyons. The fairways are wide, but Doak rewards bold tee shots that flirt with ravines and sets strategies using some of the deepest bunkers he has ever built
Ranked #14 in NZ by Australian Golf Digest for 2023/24.
Non-golfers can opt for a 90 minute spa treatment at the Cape Kidnappers Spa and enjoy the facilities there, or have the day at leisure to wander around the Art Deco Quarter or take a guided walk that will help understand the history of the area.

Tonight we gather for dinner to farewell the travellers not continuing on to the South Island, and to celebrate the wins and the ‘if onlys’ of the last 10 days.

Monday 2 Dec (B)          Golf Day – Millbrook Coronet course

The Coronet course rises from the valley floor with the grandeur of the Remarkables mountains and ski field as a backdrop. From the serenity of the quietly meandering Mill Stream to the drama of sheer rock faces, this course is truly spectacular.
Ranked #11 in NZ by Australian Golf Digest for 2023/24.
Non-golfers have the opportunity to enjoy a 90 minute spa treatment at the Millbrook Spa and to enjoy their facilities for the day. Evening at leisure – take the short walk into town for dinner at one of the myriad restaurants on offer.

Tuesday 3 Dec (B)         Golf Day – Jack’s Point

John Darby, a New Zealand land planner and golf architect, routed Jack's Point from a valley clubhouse up onto a plateau and down again to offer sterling views of Lake Wakatipu and the mile high Remarkables Mountains. Many have likened Jack's Point opening uphill holes to those of Gullane in Scotland. Ranked 62 in the World’s 100, it’s another fine example of New Zealand’s prowess in golf courses.
Ranked #5 in NZ by Australian Golf Digest for 2023/24.
Non-golfers can spend the morning exploring Arrowtown, before meeting up with the golfers at Jack’s Point.
